Entertainment by Martha

Recently I was reading the Food Section of the Washington Post when an article caught by attention, let’s say it was about Entertainment by Martha. Apparently, the book Entertainment by Martha Stewart first published in 1982 is being reissued by publisher Clarkson Poiter. Apparently, the book was reissued because mothers owning the book didn’t want to give it to their daughters wanting the book.

Anyway, the Food section article went on to say one person decided to copy one of the elegant dinner parties from the original book. I remember her having a hard time finding globe artichokes and then not finding gooseberries at all. OK, I’ve never seen gooseberries in any stores ever so that’s going to be a tough one.

It took her so many shopping trips, resources, and time to pull this all together for her family and friends. However, in the end of the article, the attendees went home well fed and happy.

I actually thought I owner a copy of the Entertainment book but looking over my bookshelves, I don’t seem to see it. Apparently, an original copy is worth hundreds of dollars online to those willing to pay this amount.

Paper Print Magazines

This got me thinking about some of my favorite magazines. First, was my subscription to Gourmet magazine. That magazine was full of good-looking food and articles of travel and importance. Yes, I loved it and remember coming home from work and being excited when my copy arrived. However, being poor and single I never really tried out any of the recipes or took any of the exciting trips.

Of course, then there was the Martha Stewart Living Magazine which was, also, another favorite of mine. Her magazine was packed with beautiful photos of food, entertaining, antiques, and how to live a better life. Let’s face it, everyone wants to live a better right, right?

I still have the second to last copy of that magazine dated May 2022. Even though it is water damaged, etc., I’m having a hard time tossing it out.

It went the way of so many other magazines. They were no longer in demand with everything online.

Ending Notes on Entertainment by Martha

It seems like I no longer have the pep needed to throw large parties, so I’m not sure a copy of her old book will help me much. Every year I would have a Halloween party, a Christmas party and an Easter Egg hunt or party. Yes, it was party central all year around here at Farmhouse Magic Blog.

Every Christmas I use Martha’s sugar cookie recipe. I, also, once tried her cranberry sauce recipe. I admit, I had to make it twice to get it right. Let’s see I think you needed to add the juice of an orange, lemon, lime plus a whole stick of cinnamon and citrus zest to it. Somehow the sauce burned on the stove the first time I made it. Not sure how I burned it. But, of course, that wouldn’t happen now.

Also, please note that my old blog photo today is of a tea party. However, not sure if Martha would have approved of fake tea party food.

Entertainment and Enjoyment go hand in hand.
