What a Holiday Photo Shoot! Isn’t it too early for thinking of roaring fires, eggnog, and holiday shopping? I haven’t even turned my heat on yet and Halloween is still a month away.
Last weekend, I even stopped at a craft store for holiday supplies. For Your Information – they are getting their holiday merchandise in soon probably this week. So, as you can see, I’m not the only early bird thinking of the holidays. Yes, I was looking for a green wreath or two that I can decorate. I’ll be back for that.
I guess I should explain this blog a little bit more. I never like having to do everything at the last minute. To me, it is easier to do a little bit at a time. However, this relates to my volunteer position and the online news I edit. Last year, we did a holiday photo shoot of the merchandise in the store. I think it turned out quite nicely even though I only use a camera phone and staged things in the store’s back storage room.
So, I’m thinking we could do the same thing again this year. However, our next publication is in November. That means next month, October, we need to get photos taken and things blocked out for publication. Last year, we did a bit of “wrapped box holiday magic” were we added a small, wrapped box or two to make the photos look festive and in season.

Wrapping “Presents” in Holiday Photo Shoot
Really, what could be better before the upcoming holiday rush than a few wrapping tips from Farmhouse Magic Blog. OK, in this case we are wrapping small empty boxes. Oh boy, some people are going to be disappointed come the holidays, right? Just joking we are definitely not giving these away to loved ones.

For our photo shoot we don’t use large boxes. That will take attention away from the merchandise we want to sell. And, of course, as stated previously, the boxes are empty. Let’s see I used soap boxes, pill boxes, a cracker box, etc. Then the ends were taped shut.
Wrapping Tips
Here are a few wrapping tips.
- Use a small piece of scotch tape, don’t over do it.
- Try to line up the lines or other patterns on your package. You might need a little extra paper to do this, but it makes the gift look finished.
- Make sure the paper is tight when wrapped around the box. Note: This was always my dad’s advice particularly when sending packages through the mail.
Holiday Photo Shoot Ending Notes
OK, I probably used too glittery paper for my wrapped boxes, but I have a zero budget on this. The paper I used was in my personal wrapping bin and, thus, free to use. I didn’t want to go out and buy something special for the project.
So now, ‘m trying to match up some of the holiday napkins I have around here to line the baskets but I’m still working on that. That holiday green and red drummer boy napkin set is probably too busy, but we’ll see.

Around the middle of next month, I’ll stop by the store and get photos with my “glittery boxes”, matching napkins to line the sales baskets, and perhaps a green wreath or something else.
I’ll let my Readers know how my photos turn out.
Getting creative and crafty around the holidays makes things special!
