Easy Way to Freeze Fresh Tomatoes

This summer my garden has produced an abundance of fresh tomatoes.

I’m not about to make tomato sauce or salsa but I have found an easy way to freeze my tomato crop until later use.

Tomatoes freeze well and are great for winter soups and stews.

I will even add a frozen tomato to homemade chili or spaghetti sauce.

The first step is to harvest your fresh tomatoes and thoroughly wash them.

Using a sharp knife, remove the top stem and any soft soft spots on the tomatoes.

You do not need to cook the tomatoes or remove the skin.

Using a heavier freezer bag with a zippered top write the date that you are freezing the tomatoes.

This way if you have several bags in the freezer you will know which bag to use up first.

Place your prepared tomatoes in a plastic freezer bag and insert a regular drinking straw in to one end.

Zip the bag up to the inserted straw and use your mouth to pull out any extra air.

Quickly remove the straw and finishing zipping.

Now your tomato bags are ready for the freezer.

It’s a great feeling not to waste any of the tomato crop and also have freshly frozen food for later.

  1. Arnetta,
Thank you for the comment on captcha plugins which blocks spams and bots. When I first started my WordPress blog a year ago, I quickly had over 7,000 spam/bot comments which eventually clogged and stopped my blog. I don’t use a captcha plugin but I use the comment blocklist on the dashboard. This takes more time to do but so far it has been working out. You add the sites you wish to block and then be sure to save the changes. I’m sure you will be able to find something that will work for your site. Good luck.
