First Halloween Party

First Halloween Party

We are going back to our on-a-dime condo decorating project for his first Halloween party.

Our new condo owner wanted to have a first Halloween party in his new home. Here at Farmhouse Magic Blog, we were more than happy to help out with the details of that celebration.

Halloween Party on a Dime

Yes, our new condo owner doesn’t have much money to spend on a party, but he wanted something nice for his friends. This person is not sure how many people will show up. Approximately 35 people were invited so, I would suspect about half or less than half will show up.

First Halloween Party Centerpiece

OK, while out secondhand shopping I found a vintage paper cupcake stand which was on sale for half price, so I paid $1.50 for it. It was brand new and still in the original bag.

At first, I thought the directions for putting it together were in French. However, after turning the instruction sheet over, I found the English version. I love the bright orange pumpkins on this three-layer centerpiece. However, it was a bit harder to put together than I thought. The first layer was the hardest to place. Then small tabs were pushed down to hold each layer together. Unfortunately, I lost a few of the tiny plastic tabs from the bottom but that doesn’t seem to matter much.

The completed pumpkin centerpiece–It is bright and happy looking.

Instead of cupcakes, we added a few plastic pumpkins, faux oranges, and large glitter spiders to the layers. Yes, those large glitter spiders also came from a secondhand store.

Lastly, I made some chocolate covered marshmallows ghosts with sprinkles. I poked a small wooden skewer through the marshmallow center, bagged each one, and tied the treats with an orange ribbon.

In thinking about it, one could also add a handful of candy corn or other candy to the layers.

Halloween Decorations

We started our Halloween table setting with a small secondhand tablecloth. It is a bit faded but that’s OK. It was repaired since the hem was coming out and washed. Since the pattern is black bats on an orange background it fits nicely with our Halloween theme.

Also, a clear plastic wine holder was found in a secondhand store for about $3. I thought our party giver could add soda cans and a little ice to this to help serve the drinks.

Halloween paper plates, napkins, and some plastic glasses were added. It all finger food, so no forks needed.

Halloween Party Menu Saving Tips

Let’s see we initially ordered a sandwich tray of 12 mini croissants. I picked them up today. They seemed a bit on the skimpy side. I really didn’t see any lettuce in the finished product. Not sure they were worth the high price I paid for them, but they came with two pairs of plastic serving tongs.

I made some double chocolate chip cookies out of a bag and froze them. This morning I got the cookies out of the freezer and plated them on a large round plastic plate. I paid about a little over $2, for the platter. I also dipped store bought chocolate sandwich cookies in melted chocolate and added some orange sprinkles. In the center of the platter, I put wrapped chocolate pieces with a pumpkin design on them. The plated cookies were wrapped in plastic wrap and placed on the serving table. Making my own cookie tray saved a bunch of money.

I wanted name brand soda but that was about three times the price of the store’s brand, so we purchased a couple of boxes of the store brand.

We found some chips for a dollar a bag in an organic store and purchased a couple of them. Also, used store brand chips. Two large plastic bowls were placed on the table for the chips.

Instead of buying an expensive $25-$35, small cheese platter I picked up pepperoni slices, store brand name cheese, and fresh grapes. I placed two pieces of pepperoni and two cubes of cheddar cheese on small skewers. I arranged the grapes attractively around the skewers.

Decorating the Condo

We added a few plastic pumpkins on the tables in the living room. We left a bag of candy on the end table nearest to the front door in case they received any trick or treaters.

A danger warning tape was, also, left for the condo owner to use. This yellow plastic decoration was purchased at a half-price sale in a secondhand store.

Not forgetting the bathroom, we added clean gray hand towels.

Ending Notes on First Halloween Party

I think the Halloween Party giver is going to be happy with the results, and I hope the guests also have a great time.

I guess my Readers are going to have to wait until tomorrow to hear about the party.

Note – We are going to take apart that pumpkin centerpiece after the party and save it for next year. It’s way too cute to toss out. Thrifty Save!!

Until then, Happy Halloween Everyone!
