As we all know, Farmhouse Magic Blog loves a great nature story including the one on the Blue Frog.
Apparently, a live green tree frog has been sighted but its coloring is blue. Finding a blue frog is quite rare, so few have been studied.
About seven years ago a wildlife photographer spotted a tree frog with blue coloring at Neabsco Regional Park in Woodbridge, VA. Then a global study on the blue coloration of frogs was initiated. People who photographed blue frogs could send their photos into the study. Recently, a blue frog was spotted at Huntley Meadows in VA.
The green tree frogs are nocturnal and are seen from late April to the end of October. They eat insects and when they are green, they blend into their surroundings.
Why Blue Frogs?
After Reading the article in the Washington Post newspaper, it is somewhat of a mystery.
Researchers do not know if it is a genetic thing, something in their diet, or something about their environment that is making them blue.

Sorry readers I haven’t been out to the local parks to seek out blue frogs since it has been a busy summer. Alas, no real blue frog photographs in my blog today.
However, next time if I’m near a body of water in a park, I am going to check it out.
I remember growing up we always had an ample supply of frogs since we had a creek flowing through an edge of our property. Those tiny frogs are sure cute. One day while playing in the creek, I noticed a slow-moving frog. I caught the frog and noticed that his back legs were marred and paralyzed. However, he still looked fat and healthy. I’m not sure if he escaped from a predator, got run over by the lawn mower, or encountered some other misfortune. I left him go back into the creek.
I was surprised that even having this severe handicap, this frog was strong and able to survive.
When thinking about the blue frogs, perhaps they are also survivors. Nature is always amazing.
