Holiday Light Show

Holiday Light Show

Last weekend I attended an absolutely lovely Holiday Light Show. Since I have a few minutes, I thought I would share a couple of words about it.

First of all, I have always loved bright, colorful lights. Around town, to raise money different organizations and groups, decorate an area with holiday lights and charge admission. There are so many ways to go with this. One can buy premade figures like snowmen, reindeers or actually decorate the trees and shrubs with strings of light. Barns or sheds take on an almost magical look when decorated in lights. I also seen snowflakes and stars beamed on flat areas with lights.

One year we drove through a light show.

However, last weekend, we walked through the event.

The Holiday Light Show

The event we attended had at least three ride options which came with the ticket. Of course, we also went in to see Santa who was holding court with his elves. We waited in a short line, but the time went quickly because the area and walls were each decorated in a different theme. For instance, there was a Santa in a canoe, an ice pond area with fish, etc.

After seeing Santa and posing for photographs, we went and worked on a construction paper “ugly sweater” tree decoration. Of course, there is no right or wrong way with an ugly sweater, so we used lots of stickers and a sparkle pipe cleaner to form a holding circle for the tree bough.

We, also, went on a wagon ride with lots of sparkly stars, deer in the field, and what looked like shooting stars. Both sides of the area were decorated, so we looked both ways.

We also toured the historic farmhouse where we learned about holidays from years ago. The decorations were simple, gifts were homemade, and the holiday meal was delicious. This time, it was a home smoked ham, peas and strawberry jam were canned over the summer months, and lots of homemade candy and cookies.

Ending Notes on Holiday Light Show

Nothing better than to see a holiday light show through the eyes of a child. The pure delight of being outside and seeing some new.

And so, we count down the days to the holiday, we enjoy the season, have a cup of eggnog and count our many blessings.

Now, do you think it will snow for Christmas?

Note: The photograph today was in no way connected to the holiday light show. In fact, it was a present I gave out earlier in the week. I’ve been decluttering and noted two brand new dish towels which became part of my gift. I’m not sure what I was saving them for.
