OK, we are going to start our blog out strong with information on an antique ReStore Edison phonograph.
Our first photograph below, is what I believe, is the top of a Diamond Disc, Official Laboratory Phonograph, Model P. made by Thomas Edison.
Brief History on Edison’s Phonograph
To be brief about things, Edison first started out with a phonograph which used a cylinder, (up to 1912). After that time discs began to become popular. Then Edison’s research team began to work with plastics. The original discs were thick and had a core. But they were easy to store and sounded great. On the disc label was a “L” or “R” indicating the left and right sides for storage in the cabinet.
The diamond disc got its name because there was a real diamond in the stylus, which would not wear out. (Note: It is missing on this machine). This was a big improvement since on some units, the needle had to be changed with every use.
The phonographs were sold in wooden cabinets. Some people thought the Edison cabinets were not as attractive as the Victrolas. Also, a negative point, the laminated records seem to detach from their core material.
Thomas Edison exhibited the phonograph at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893. It was the first phonograph capable of playing back recorded sounds.

This ReStore antique phonograph is priced at $300 and I believe it dates back to about 1912-1929. The bottom cabinet section allowed the owner to store his records there. I, also, noted two locks on this phonograph to keep things secure.
Vintage Cloverleaf Table
The next piece is a vintage wooden cloverleaf table painted white so I’m not sure of what the original wood looks like. However, on doing a bit of research, cloverleaf tables were used to hold planters. This is a large table, so the planters on this table would have been rather large. I can see this table out on a covered patio or porch.

I, personally, like the look of this “three in one” wooden table.
Modern Looking Breakfast or Bar Stools.
I noted three or four of these modern looking breakfast or bar stools with blue seats. I didn’t notice the price, but these stools would work great in a modern setting. There didn’t appear to be any stains or rips on the seats.
I didn’t sit on these chairs, but if you want something a little different, this is the way to go.

Matching Glass Topped Tables in Restore Edison
I really like these two glass topped tables which look to be in great condition, almost like new.
They, also, have a modern vibe to them. One is a coffee table, and one looks to be a side table. These were located near the front of the store. If I was furnishing a new apartment I would have purchased them. Also, the glass on the tabletops is of a nice thickeness.

Wine Storage Rack
This small wine storage rack will fit in a lot of spaces. It is nicely made of wood; however, I am not sure on the price.

This handy little wine rack is sure to please the individual with several wine bottles needing a storage place.
Concluding Remarks for ReStore Edison Blog
It is always a treat to come in and look around at all the interesting items that are donated to this ReStore and then resold.
Imagine, all these great items, not ending up at the local landfill.
I only wish I could take more of them home but, alas, if I bring one thing home, another thing has to go. Otherwise, there is no room.
A big Thank You to the Northern Virgina Chantilly Habitat for Humanity ReStore shop for allowing me to take photographs of your items and to blog about your unique store.
